We are all tired. The state of hypervigilance to control the uncontrollable has left us exhausted and we do not have the energy to work effectively. On the other hand, there is nothing in sight that promises a good and secure future for most of the people: there are ERTEs, layoffs, it does not seem that we can travel and selective confinements prevent us from escaping to our resting places. This is the reality. And the reality about which we can do little.
However, humanity has weathered wars, two of them global, the great depression, earthquakes and tidal waves ... so many things. And how have we done it? Thanks to our resilience. To the ability to stand up and face each other. And to do so we must stop blaming others. COVID is Covid and how our politicians on duty handle it is how they handle it. The time has come to assume it, to take responsibility for what happens to us and face the situation ourselves. What in English they call “accountability”, our own responsibility.
Only we can deal with the situation and we must mobilize our resources. In Healthy work we are teaching through our training via Webinar to recognize and mobilize these resources: differentiate between reality and thoughts, stop to recognize these thoughts and feelings, get to know each other and identify our beliefs, breathe with mindfulness exercises, body exploration, mindfulness or meditation, develop curiosity to face fear, focus on strengths and our circles of action, take care of ourselves physically by sleeping, eating healthy and exercising, relying on our social support group ... There are so many tools to manage the uncertain, complex, volatile and ambiguous world (VUCA), that we must to stop complaining and take responsibility for our situation. We can get up with the mask, maintaining social distance and ventilating. Humanity is resilient. As Lewis Carrol wrote in Alice in Wonderland, everything will go well in the end, and if it doesn't go well, it's not the end. Take heart and count on the help of Healthy Work to mobilize your teams.
