Life is a wonderful journey, but luckily or unfortunately it is not a static journey. Change is inherent in life. Everything has a beginning and an end and the things that were yesterday, tomorrow may not be part of our present.
Every change or circumstance in life gives us the opportunity for personal growth or self-destruction. What is the positive of all this? That we have the power. We can determine to some extent our destiny. And it has been shown that people who know how to manage change are more successful in their lives.
Put this way, this seems very simple, but most of us have not had a subject in college or university in which we have been taught to successfully manage change. Many times we do not have the right tools, some people avoid it, fight against it, or are simply passive towards what happens to them in life.
That a situation of change turns into a personal crisis or leads us to a triumph, lies in ourselves:
- First, in our perspective of the problem: how we see it and position ourselves before it. Do we see it as a challenge from which we are going to emerge stronger or as something that invades us, that is beyond our control, of which we can do nothing?
Viktor Frankl (a psychotherapist who lived in a concentration camp and wrote "Man in Search of Meaning") said that "everything can be taken from man except one thing: the last of human liberties - the choice of personal attitude given a set of circumstances — to decide your own path. ”
- Secondly, the social resources I have and the use I make of them. When I have a problem or difficulty I ask for help, I lean on my loved ones (family, friends, coworkers ...? Or rather I keep it and feel vulnerable / a burden if I share it? On a personal level, do I trust in my strengths and do I have a good level of confidence?
- Finally, how do I respond to change or circumstances, that is, what I do. Do I face him, do I “look him in the eye”? Or on the contrary, I prefer to avoid it, look elsewhere, make my life without thinking about it, hoping that at some point it will pass with the help of time? Of course we know that no problem disappears when avoided, even if we try.
To end the reflection, I bring a phrase from Einstein that says: “Creativity is born out of anguish, just like day is born out of dark night. It is in challenges that inventiveness, discoveries and great strategies are born. Whoever overcomes the challenges overcomes himself without being overcome. " What a reason, right? ... It depends on us.
