2017 is ending. Perhaps in this new year that is beginning, we are going to have to face changes: a new job, a new residence, or the end of a personal relationship. Because life is movement and constant change. Balance and imbalance.
In general, all of us have a certain aversion to change, because the new creates a lot of stress and insecurity in us. On some occasions, we even refuse to change and adapt to these new situations in which we are required to implement different skills or abilities.
This reminds me of a phrase from Muhammad Ali: "A man who sees the world at 50 the same as at 30, has lost 20 years of his life". What you think about this?
Change is necessary in life and those who know how to manage it instead of avoiding it, are more successful in their lives. Change is generally a matter of attitude towards change, rather than impossibility to change. We can see the change as something that should be avoided because it destabilizes us, or as something positive that forces us to leave the well-known comfort zone.
Here are some of the things you can do to better adapt to changes:
- Accept the change. Change is inevitable and a normal part of life. When you learn to manage rather than avoid or deny it, you regain control of yourself and then have the power to change the situation.
- Control what is in your hands. That is, put all your energies in the areas that you can change and depend on you.
- Do things one by one, divide the change in several parts to facilitate coping.
- It has a support system. Friends and family help us to go through difficult times with more resources and support, and help us to be more resistant when facing the surprises of life.
- Employ stress management techniques such as meditation and physical exercise.
- Take time for yourself, to do your hobbies, and take care of your diet and sleep.
To grow as people and be happier, we must have an open mind and take advantage of the changes in direction that arise in our lives. None of us like the fear that often comes with venturing into unfamiliar terrain, but something positive (even painful) can almost always be extracted. And you, do you take advantage of the change in your life?
