We often want to find time to disconnect, but we also have too many obligations (work, family, errands, etc.) so we compromise sleep to get everything done. However, we do not take into account that sleep influences both physical and mental health. Sleep is essential for our health.
Sleep, of course, contributes to feeling rested each day. But when someone sleeps, not only their body and mind go to sleep, but their organs and other internal systems are active throughout the night.
Here are some tips to make our sleep as peaceful and beneficial as possible:
- Maintain a consistent routine with set times for getting up, going to bed, and turning off the lights.
- Try not to take more than one nap a day and keep it short, better if it doesn't last more than 30 minutes.
- Exercise throughout the day.
- The bed should only be used for sleeping and having sex. It should not be used for things like eating, watching TV, or listening to the radio. If you still can't sleep after 30 minutes, try relaxing activities like reading a simple book, listening to quiet music, or watching TV in another room.
- Make sure the bedroom is cozy and not too hot or too cold. Keep the space as dark and quiet as possible. Better wear comfortable clothes to facilitate your rest.
- After mid-afternoon, avoid consuming stimulating liquids such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, or alcohol. Just as we should avoid smoking before bed.
In this way and following these instructions you will be able to have a much more restful sleep, and you will wake up with more energy to face the day.
