For all of us who are culinary fans, the name “Can Roca” is not unknown. The other day I was surprised listening to one of the brothers who owned the famous restaurant, Joan Roca. I am not shocked to see him on television (even if they have a very tight schedule), I am surprised by what he says in such a natural and spontaneous way.
The first thing that strikes me about the interview is that he mentions that they have a psychologist at the restaurant. But what does a health professional paint in the hospitality sector? "The psychologist tries to manage the conflicts that are inevitable in a company where there are many people working and committed to excellence," he tells us.
Without ceasing to amaze me, because I did not know such a point, later he adds: “We propose to humanize this sector, this trade, so for a long time, in addition to caring for people through specialists, we also try to improve their working conditions to retain the talent we have (...). We have a double team, a double brigade… some do the midday service and others the night service ”.
Not content with this, he continues: "Also, 4 years ago we decided to close on Tuesday morning, not to feed, and to spend time taking care of our people, our emotions ... taking care of the team (...)".
And I am still stunned, listening to how this restaurant bets on work-life balance, and emotionally cares for its workers. Outcome? Three stars from the Michelin Guide, best restaurant in the world (2013), Art of Hospitality Award (2017), a waiting list that lasts up to 11 months, and a long etcetera.
How important it is to care for all employees! A happy and satisfied worker is a much more productive and efficient worker. Through the PAE (Employee Assistance Program), we aim to help people overcome their personal problems that affect their daily activities, promoting their well-being and mental health. This has an impact on a pleasant work environment, where health and maximum productivity coexist, reducing absenteeism and conflict, achieving an enthusiastic and efficient organization.
